Spice up your dining experience with a taste of exotic cuisine! This month, we highlight a collection of our favorite spots to enjoy some unique dishes, interesting cuisines and intriguing flavors.
Portland, OR: Pacific Pie Company was launched in 2009 when husband and wife team Sarah and Chris moved to Portland from Chris’ native Australia. Chris was homesick for all things Aussie, including meat pies, so Sarah started baking them for him and a business was born! Sarah and Chris started by selling their pies at local farmer’s markets, and then opened a small cafe in Southeast Portland in 2010.
San Diego, CA: Bombay opened in October 1988 on restaurant row in Hillcrest. A fanciful curtain of monsoon rain, visible through floor-to-ceiling glass doors, is a friendly greeting as guests enter the elegant dining room. Aromas of exotic spices promise a feast of flavors. Multi award winning Chef Ashley Popat has been serving both quality interpretations of classic Indian dishes and daring new ventures into the uncharted territories of food.
Redmond & Seattle, WA: La Isla Seattle began as a small food vendor for the Sunday Fremont Market. It didn’t take long to realize this small, salsa music filled food stand needed to be a full blown restaurant! Eight years later La Isla has two little islands of their own in downtown Ballard and downtown Redmond. Here you’ll come to love the flavors of Puerto Rico.
Scottsdale, AZ: Deseo – meaning desire in Spanish – showcases Nuevo Latino cuisine, a pairing of traditional Latin American ingredients and contemporary culinary style to create unique, fresh and flavorful dishes that include a range of mouthwatering ceviches, grilled and roasted fish and shellfish, and a selection of skillfully prepared meats all with tantalizing South American-inspired marinades, sauces and sides. Complementing the menu is Deseo’s extensive list of South American wines.
